Position Summary:
Utah State University is seeking a postdoc researcher interested in climate dynamics involving the atmospheric waves. This position will participate in a study that diagnoses the pattern and origin of jet stream shift and compare simulations with observations. Background in global climate modeling and dynamic meteorology is preferred, particularly in the area of instability theories.  
 
Responsibilities:

Major Responsibilities

The main research focus of this position is the detection and quantification of jet stream change by relating the synoptic-scale circulation fluctuations to Arctic and tropical climate changes.  The research also includes diagnostic analysis of monsoon instability in climate models.

Duties Required

  • Computing and data-mining from large ensemble climate model outputs (60%)
  • Provide independent and original thoughts about research direction and extension (20%)
  • Communicate effectively on paper and with other scholars (20%)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in meteorology, atmospheric or climate sciences
  • Demonstrated publication record and programming skills (NCL, GrADS, FORTRAN, Python, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

Background in regional modeling and dynamic meteorology is preferred, particularly in the area of stationary wave and eddies in the atmospheric circulations.

May involve a large volume of such composition.
